HAVE YOU SEEN THIS YET?

TODAY IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY
From Bakery Staple to Backyard Icon
In the late 1800s, a Civil War veteran named William Russell Frisbie built a successful baking business in Bridgeport, selling pies that were wildly popular across the region. The pies came in sturdy metal tins stamped with the company name, a practical detail that would unexpectedly spark a cultural phenomenon.
Local kids quickly discovered those tins were perfect for tossing through the air, and “Frisbie” became the shout of choice whenever one went flying. What started as a schoolyard pastime spread up and down the Connecticut shoreline, even catching on with college students, including those at Yale. The flying pie tin became an unplanned classic long before anyone thought to market it.
Years later, after World War II, a California inventor named Walter Morrison developed a plastic flying disc with no knowledge of Connecticut’s pie-tin tradition. When toy company Wham-O acquired the design and learned about the Connecticut connection, they refined the disc and renamed it the Frisbee, tweaking the spelling just enough to avoid legal trouble.
The result was instant magic. The Frisbee took off nationwide, selling hundreds of millions of units and becoming a staple of American play, sport, and pop culture. All of it traces back to a humble Bridgeport bakery and a pie tin that accidentally learned how to fly.

If you’re overdue for a proper movie night, this deal makes it way easier to say yes. AMC Theatres is offering AMC Black Tickets and ticket + snack combos at up to 35% off, giving you flexible, no-expiration passes that work at AMC locations nationwide. These tickets come with fewer restrictions, so you can catch standard showings or level up with formats like IMAX or Dolby Cinema.
It’s a solid pick for date nights, family outings, or stocking up for future releases. Once you redeem the Groupon, the tickets themselves don’t expire, meaning you can buy now and use them whenever a “let’s go to the movies” mood hits. Just be sure to apply the promo code SHOWTIME before checkout to lock in the extra savings.
