SUNDAY EVENTS ACROSS CONNECTICUT

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS YET?

TODAY IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY

The Sheep That Helped Shape New England’s Economy

David Humphreys, a native of Derby, was already a respected figure in early American history before he made one of his most unexpected contributions. A veteran of the American Revolutionary War and a close associate of George Washington, Humphreys later served as a diplomat in Europe, where he was introduced to a special breed of sheep known for producing exceptionally soft, high-quality wool.

Recognizing the potential, he brought merino sheep to the United States, overcoming strict export restrictions at the time. Once introduced in Connecticut, these sheep quickly gained attention for their superior fleece, sparking a surge in demand and transforming sheep farming across New England. What started as a small import turned into a regional movement, reshaping agriculture and local economies.

Humphreys didn’t stop there. He went on to establish one of the first large-scale woolen mills in the country, helping lay the groundwork for the textile industry in the region. His efforts played a key role in the early stages of industrial growth, proving that even something as simple as sheep could drive major economic change.

Discounted tickets and snack combos make going to the movies way more worth it

If you’ve been saying “we should go watch something” but haven’t actually gone, this is your push. AMC Theatres is offering Yellow Ticket deals that cut movie night costs by up to 38%, whether you’re going solo, on a date, or bringing the whole group. These tickets are flexible, work seven days a week, and let you pick your movie when you’re ready — no pressure to lock in plans immediately.

You can also bundle tickets with popcorn and drinks, which honestly makes the whole experience feel complete without overspending. With thousands already grabbing this deal and the promo ending soon, it’s one of those “book it now, plan later” situations.

Thanks!
