Did you know replacing your HVAC could cost more than $10,000? Considering normal wear and tear on items such as your water heater and A/C aren’t covered by most home insurance policies, a home warranty could be a smart move. These plans help pay for the repair and replacement costs when covered systems and appliances stop working or break down. For a small monthly payment, you can protect your home without worrying about a broken A/C in the middle of summer.

TODAY IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY
Guilford’s Stealth Strike: A Revolutionary Raid That Turned the Tide
In the early morning hours of May 1777, Connecticut’s coast became the launchpad for one of the most daring and successful Revolutionary War raids — all led by Colonel Return Jonathan Meigs from the quiet shoreline of Guilford.
Fueled by revenge for a brutal British attack in Danbury just weeks prior, Meigs rallied 170 patriots, packed them into 13 whaleboats, and set off across Long Island Sound under cover of darkness. Their target? Sag Harbor — a vital British stronghold stocked with supplies and guarded by enemy ships.
In a single, swift night, Meigs and his men destroyed a dozen British vessels, torched enemy stockpiles of hay, grain, and rum, and captured 96 prisoners — all without losing a single patriot. The raid was hailed as a bold victory and a major morale boost for the Continental cause.
But the fight wasn’t over. Four years later, Guilford itself faced retaliation. British forces — including Loyalist troops — landed on Leete’s Island and burned homes before being driven off by the local militia. Two young defenders lost their lives, a grim reminder of the war’s reach.
Meigs’ raid remains one of the most precise and successful tactical strikes of the Revolutionary War — and it all started on the Connecticut shoreline.
