If you’re a homeowner, you know unexpected expenses are par for the course. One way to help shield your finances is to get a home warranty. Unlike homeowners insurance, which covers natural disasters and theft, a home warranty could help safeguard you against costly repairs of eligible essential home appliances and systems due to normal wear and tear.

TODAY IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY

When Connecticut Changed the Game

In 1979, a small studio in Bristol became the launchpad for a revolution in both sports and television. That year, Bill Rasmussen—a former communications director for the New England Whalers—set out to build something no one thought possible: a 24-hour sports network.

Cable television was still new and unproven, and many dismissed the idea of nonstop sports coverage as a gamble that wouldn’t last. But with early backing from Getty Oil and Anheuser-Busch, Rasmussen’s vision became reality. On September 7, 1979, ESPN aired its first episode of SportsCenter, marking the beginning of a new era.

What started on a single acre of land in Bristol has since grown into a 100-acre global headquarters. ESPN has broadcast tens of thousands of episodes of SportsCenter, built a worldwide media empire, and cemented its status as “The Worldwide Leader in Sports.” And it all began right here in Connecticut.

Hands-on STEAM fun for kids ages 0–10

Looking for a fun, educational family outing that keeps kids engaged (and off the screens)? The EverWonder Children’s Museum in Newtown is designed just for curious little minds. With interactive exhibits that bring science, technology, engineering, art, and math to life, kids can dig for dinosaur fossils, build with giant blocks, explore the vet lab, or even meet live animals. There’s also a sensory room and free preschool programming every Thursday and Friday during the school year.

Right now, you can score discounted admission for two, three, four, or six people — up to 43% off through Groupon. That means a day of imagination and play for less than the cost of dinner out.

👉 Don’t wait — deals like this don’t last long! Grab your Groupon here.
