Upgrading your windows isn’t just about trimming your energy bills—it’s one of the smartest investments you can make in your home’s long-term value. New, energy-efficient windows enhance curb appeal, reduce maintenance needs, and create a quieter, more comfortable living space. They also signal quality to future buyers, boosting resale potential while saving you money every month.

Start on the right foot by buying one window and getting another for 40% off (plus an extra $200 off your order) with Renewal by Andersen’s limited-time offer.

TODAY IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY

Connecticut Sailor Charts New Horizons in Antarctica

Born in Stonington in 1799, Nathaniel Brown Palmer began his seafaring life as a teenage deckhand navigating ships during the War of 1812. By the age of 19, he was already commanding his own vessel, the Galina, pursuing the lucrative China trade through seal hunting.

As seal populations dwindled in familiar waters, Palmer ventured further south, exploring uncharted seas. In 1820, while captaining the sloop Hero, he sighted a previously unknown landmass—the northernmost tip of Antarctica. He named it “Palmer Land,” which is now known as the Antarctic Peninsula, and became the first American credited with discovering the continent.

Palmer returned to Stonington to become a respected shipbuilder and civic leader. His Victorian mansion is now a National Historic Landmark, and Palmer’s legacy endures with Palmer Station, a U.S. research base named in his honor. His story reflects Connecticut’s long tradition of exploration and maritime achievement.
