GOVERNOR LAMONT ANNOUNCES HISTORIC EXPANSION OF PRESCHOOL ACCESS

Governor Ned Lamont has proposed a landmark expansion of preschool access in Connecticut, aiming to provide thousands of additional children with early childhood education.

Under the plan, the Universal Preschool Endowment would be created using $300 million from the state’s fiscal surplus, with future funding coming from unallocated state surpluses. This investment would allow for increased enrollment in preschool programs, benefiting both young learners and working parents.

ā€œI want Connecticut to lead on early childhood education, and that means making preschool affordable and accessible for all of our kids,ā€ Governor Lamont said.

The proposal, which now heads to the General Assembly for approval, would be the largest preschool expansion in Connecticut’s history. Advocates say it will not only help children succeed academically but also support parents in the workforce.
