THIS MONTH IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY
The Rise of Connecticutâs Grange Movement
As America rapidly industrialized in the 1800s, rural communities faced growing challengesâand the National Grange of Patrons of Husbandry emerged as a way to bring farmers together, giving them a stronger collective voice. Focused on agriculture, education, and community support, the organization stood out for its time by welcoming both men and women as equal members and even creating programs for children.
Connecticut officially joined the movement in 1875, forming its own State Grange in Danbury. After early struggles, the organization quickly gained momentum, expanding into a widespread network of local chapters that supported farmers through shared knowledge, advocacy, and community-building efforts. The Grange played a key role in advancing agricultural education in the state, including supporting what would eventually become the University of Connecticut.
Today, while smaller than its peak years, the Connecticut State Grange still operates dozens of local chapters that continue to host events, support local agriculture, and serve as gathering spacesâcarrying forward a legacy rooted in connection, resilience, and rural life.

Waking up multiple times a night to use the bathroom isn't just frustratingâit's robbing you of the deep, restorative sleep your body needs. And it's not something you just have to live with.
Many women over 50 accept frequent nighttime urination as an inevitable part of aging. But recent research shows there's a natural solution that can help you sleep through the night again, without prescription medications or invasive procedures.
