If you’re thinking about cutting back on red meat for better health, wild-caught seafood could be your secret weapon. Science shows that eating fish 1-2 times a week can support healthy heart and brain function, help reduce inflammation, and even may give your metabolism a little boost.
Here’s what wild-caught seafood delivers: essential n‑3 polyunsaturated fats (specifically, the marine-based omega-3 fatty acids that nutritionists love so much!), lean and digestible protein, and a smorgasbord of nutrients. Compare that to conventional red meat, which often comes with higher saturated fat, an unhealthy balance of omega‑6 fatty acids, and a limited range of nutrients.
Switching to seafood as your go-to protein is not just a shift away from a red meat rut. It’s a shift toward higher-quality nutrients and a more diversified diet for well-rounded health.

Are you taking advantage of your Amazon Prime perks? Whether you’re already a Prime member or considering signing up, here are 9 Prime member benefits you should be using!
Once upon a time we had to make lists with paper and pen and physically go to stores when we needed things. Sometimes we’d have to go to several stores or even shopping malls for what we needed.
Then one day, out of the heavens, came Amazon. For many of us, the free shipping perk and access to exclusive shows and movies is enough reason to fork over the $14.99 per month to get Prime.
But if those reasons haven't been enough to entice you to join Prime, maybe some lesser-known incentives like free music/podcasts, access to lightning deals, and Whole Foods discounts will tempt you to sign up. Make sure you're not missing out, and get the most out of your Prime membership with help from our deal-finding experts.

THIS MONTH IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY
The Great East Thompson Train Wreck
In the foggy morning hours of 1891, East Thompson became the site of one of the largest train disasters in U.S. history. The small town, located at the junction of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, saw four trains collide within minutes on a heavily traveled diagonal rail line connecting Boston and New York City.
A miscommunication between dispatchers sent an eastbound freight train onto the westbound track, resulting in a violent head-on collision with a westbound freight train. Moments later, the Eastern States Express struck the wreckage, followed by another passenger train that crashed into the chaos, setting itself ablaze. Miraculously, only two trainmen lost their lives, though hundreds were injured and the tracks were rendered unusable.
The aftermath led to the permanent rerouting of rail traffic around East Thompson. The station was eventually torn down, and the former tracks are now part of Air Line State Park, where a commemorative plaque marks the site of this historic and tragic event.

HEADLINES AROUND THE STATE
Traffic Cameras Spread Across Connecticut
More towns are rolling out automated speed and red-light cameras as part of the state’s expanding enforcement program. Greenwich, Marlborough, Middletown and Washington already have cameras active, and several others plan to go live in early 2026. Officials say the devices are slowing drivers down, reducing crashes and generating funds for local infrastructure projects.
Darien Considers New $89.9 Million Middle School Auditorium
Middlesex Middle School may soon get a major upgrade. Officials are weighing two options: a full renovation of the outdated 400-seat auditorium or the construction of a new 800-seat, 42,000-square-foot theater. The plan ties into a broader facilities overhaul that includes new science labs, mechanical system updates and interior renovations across the campus.
Boar’s Head Pulls Cheese After Listeria Concerns Hit Connecticut
Boar’s Head has recalled select pecorino romano products just before Thanksgiving after a supplier flagged possible listeria contamination. The recall stems from Ambriola Company, which manufactures the affected cheese. While no other Boar’s Head products are impacted, the move comes on the heels of past nationwide listeria outbreaks tied to the brand. Federal regulators say broader listeria testing is now being added to ready-to-eat food inspections.
New Willimantic Exhibit Maps Connecticut’s Rise as “Thread City”
The Windham Textile and History Museum is unveiling a permanent exhibit charting Connecticut’s once-massive textile empire — a booming industry that supplied thread for everything from uniforms to NASA space suits. Packed with artifacts and community-sourced insight, the display traces the growth of Willimantic Mills, its innovations, and the eventual decline of local manufacturing. The exhibition spans five thematic sections and celebrates the legacy of longtime curator Jamie Eves.
