POTENTIAL WEEKEND SNOWSTORM COULD BRING RAIN OR SNOW TO CONNECTICUT

National Weather Service predicts a mild start to the week followed by a chilly weekend…

A low-pressure system known as a "clipper" could bring snow or a wintry mix to Connecticut this weekend. The National Weather Service reports a 30-40% chance of precipitation Saturday into Sunday, but the exact track of the system remains uncertain.

  • If the system moves directly over Connecticut, expect snow.

  • If it passes to the north, it could bring a mix of rain and snow.

  • Temperatures will drop into the 30s over the weekend, with overnight lows in the teens by Sunday night.

In the meantime, showers are possible Tuesday night and Thursday, with gusty winds expected into Friday.

HOME PRICES CONTINUE TO RISE IN CT’S HOTTEST MARKETS

Connecticut’s real estate market is still experiencing significant price increases, even as mortgage rates fluctuate. A recent report highlights the cities with the fastest-growing home values in the state, with some towns seeing double-digit percentage increases over the past year.

Topping the list is Darien, where home values surged by $135,000 in the last year alone. Other high-growth areas include New Canaan, Greenwich, Weston, and Westport, all of which saw home price increases of over $50,000.

More affordable areas such as Sterling, New London, and Canterbury also experienced rapid growth, with prices rising by more than 9% year-over-year.

As housing inventory remains tight, competition for homes continues to drive prices higher across Connecticut. Whether you're looking to buy or sell, these trends suggest the market will remain hot well into 2025.

FASCINATING CONNECTICUT HISTORY

A Brawl in Congress: Connecticut’s Roger Griswold Fights on the House Floor

On February 15, 1798, Connecticut Representative Roger Griswold turned a heated political dispute into a full-blown brawl when he attacked Vermont Congressman Matthew Lyon with his walking stick—right on the floor of Congress.

Without hesitation, Lyon grabbed a pair of iron fireplace tongs and fought back. The two men traded blows before fellow representatives finally stepped in to break up the fight.

The clash was the culmination of weeks of animosity between the two men, rooted in the deep political divide of the era. Lyon, a Democratic-Republican, had accused Federalist lawmakers like Griswold of serving their own interests over those of the common man.

In response, Griswold mocked Lyon’s dishonorable discharge from the Continental Army, prompting Lyon to spit tobacco juice in Griswold’s face—an insult that led Federalists to push for his expulsion from Congress.

When the motion to expel Lyon failed along party lines, an enraged Griswold took matters into his own hands the next day, launching the infamous assault.

The event became one of the first—and certainly not the last—physical altercations in the halls of Congress, highlighting the bitter partisanship that shaped early American politics.
