A multi-day, choose-your-own adventure spring event for families

EverWonder’s Annual Egg Scramble takes the classic egg hunt and turns it into a full-on experience with three different event styles to choose from. There’s a sensory-friendly indoor hunt for a calmer vibe, a nighttime flashlight egg hunt for something more exciting, and the main event featuring timed outdoor hunts, optional museum access, and even a live animal experience with birds of prey. It’s designed so families can pick what works best instead of squeezing into a one-size-fits-all setup.

Everything is organized with timed entries and limited capacity, so it actually feels smooth and enjoyable instead of chaotic. If you’re planning a fun, easy win for the kids (and honestly for yourself too), this is one of those events worth booking early before spots fill up.

The Sound of Music returns to the historic Shubert Theatre

The Sound of Music is back on stage in New Haven, bringing one of the most iconic musicals of all time to life at the Shubert Theatre. With a lineup of unforgettable songs like “Do-Re-Mi” and “Edelweiss,” plus a story that still hits no matter how many times you’ve seen it, this is the kind of show that works for date night, family outings, or just switching things up from your usual plans.

With multiple showtimes available throughout the weekend, it’s easy to fit into your schedule. If you’ve been wanting to do something a little more memorable than the usual dinner or movie, this is your sign to grab tickets and go experience it live.

Dogs, BBQ, desserts, and good vibes all in one place

The Harley Dog Adoption Event in Branford is bringing together adoptable dogs, great food, and a laid-back community vibe for a feel-good kind of day. Dog Star Rescue will be there with pups ready for adoption or fostering, and you can even get pre-approved or apply on-site if you’re seriously considering it.

Even if you’re just stopping by to hang out, you’ll have BBQ, desserts, and plenty of dogs to meet, so it’s a win either way. And fair warning, you might show up “just to look” and leave already naming your new dog.

The cost of veterinary services has been rising recently, with some common surgical procedures costing up to $7,000. Pet insurance can help cover accidents, illnesses, and even routine care, with some plans reimbursing up to 90% of costs.

Money.com's Best Pet Insurance list can help you find affordable coverage starting at just $10 a month so you can focus on what matters most – your furry friend's well-being.

A glow-style 18-hole course that’s perfect for date night, families, or group hangouts

If you’re looking for something easy, fun, and actually different from the usual plans, this indoor mini golf experience at Lessard Lanes is a solid pick. The 18-hole course is designed with immersive features like waterfalls, flowing streams, and creative obstacles that keep things interesting from start to finish. It’s the kind of place where you can show up competitive or just mess around and still have a great time.

Even better, it’s indoors, so no stressing about weather ruining your plans. Whether you’re going as a couple, bringing friends, or planning something low-effort but fun with family, this deal makes it easy to lock in a good time without overthinking it.

THIS MONTH IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY

A Poet, A Dreamer, A Diplomat Far From Home

Joel Barlow, born in Redding in 1754, was one of Connecticut’s most intellectually ambitious figures of the early United States. A Yale graduate surrounded by future icons like Noah Webster, Barlow showed early promise in writing, especially poetry. But while his peers found clearer paths, Barlow’s early career was anything but smooth, with unsuccessful attempts in roles ranging from chaplain and lawyer to newspaper publisher and land agent.

Despite those setbacks, Barlow found his footing through literature as part of the “Hartford Wits,” a group of influential writers shaping early American voice and identity. His work, including The Vision of Columbus, gained national recognition and helped establish him as a serious literary figure. At the same time, his political views and global interests pulled him into diplomacy, where he took on roles representing the young United States across Europe and North Africa.

Barlow’s life ultimately became as expansive as his ideas. While pursuing diplomatic efforts during a turbulent time in Europe, he traveled extensively before falling ill and passing away in Poland in 1812. Though far from home, his legacy remains rooted in Connecticut as a writer, thinker, and public figure who chased both creative and political impact on a global scale.

Free Tire Disposal Program Rolls Out in Select Towns

Popular Pasta Shop Expanding with New Cooking School

A West Hartford favorite is growing, with More Italian Pasta Lab planning a new Glastonbury location featuring ready-to-bake meals and hands-on cooking classes. The new space aims to turn pasta-making into a fun, social experience while bringing authentic Italian flavors to a wider audience.

Restaurant Closure Sparks Confusion Across Towns

A longtime Italian restaurant in Thomaston is closing after nearly two decades, but a similarly named spot in Wolcott is staying open. The announcement caused mix-ups among customers, with the still-open restaurant reassuring everyone it’s business as usual.

Bridgeport Arena Faces Uncertain Future After Team Exit

With the Bridgeport Islanders set to leave, the city’s major arena could sit unused for months while officials search for a new operator or purpose. While concerts and events may continue, the departure raises bigger questions about the venue’s long-term role and sustainability.
