The Merritt Parkway Scandal

The Merritt Parkway is one of Connecticut’s most iconic roadways, known for its scenic design, tree-lined routes, and distinctive stone bridges. Built as an alternative to the increasingly congested U.S. Route 1, it introduced features that were ahead of its time, including limited access, divided lanes, and entrance and exit ramps—concepts that would later define the modern interstate system.
