š IRON CHEF MORIMOTO BRINGS FLAVOR & FANFARE TO FOXWOODS
Sumo wrestlers, sake barrels, and next-level ramen mark the grand opening of Momosan Foxwoods.
The culinary world met casino buzz at Foxwoods last week as Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto officially opened the doors to Momosan, his newest restaurant concept serving up casual ramen, sushi, and izakaya fare. The grand opening was anything but subtleācomplete with sumo wrestlers, taiko drummers, and a sake barrel-breaking ceremony that drew hundreds of curious guests to the Great Cedar Concourse.
Momosan marks Morimotoās seventh location and first within a casino in the Northeast. The vibe? Manga murals, open kitchens, and a vibrant menu packed with porky tonkotsu ramen, spicy tan-tan bowls, sticky ribs, duck tacos, and a standout sushi selection (his most expansive yet). Ohāand yes, cocktails are on deck too, featuring Japanese whiskeys and premium sake.
āThis is more than just a businessāitās an experience,ā said Morimoto, who was literally carried onstage by a sumo wrestler at the event. Foxwoods leadership called the new eatery a game-changer for their dining lineup, noting it fills a major gap in offerings with quality thatās anything but casual.
š“ Whether you're team ramen, sushi, or just here for the Iron Chef nostalgia, this spot is already generating buzz.

I donāt know about you, but like most Americans, the first thing I reach for every morning is my favorite mug and the coffee in my pantry. Until recently, I settled for any coffee that seemed āokayā at the grocery store, hoping itād do the job of waking me up. I didnāt care about its flavor or quality. Then I discovered Trade, and everything changed.
Trade introduced me to some of the most exciting small-batch roasters and coffee shops across the countryāthe kinds of places Iād love to visit if I lived nearby. I took their quick quiz about my coffee preferences, and they matched me with unique coffees Iād never find at the grocery store. Now, I canāt imagine my mornings without them.
Each bag is roasted fresh and shipped directly to my door. I was amazed at how much better it tasted than my usual grocery store coffee, and I didnāt have to change my brewing routine at all. The aroma? Even my mail carrier noticed and asked about itāit was that good. Iām never going back to the grocery store for coffee again.
For a limited time, Connecticut Lifestyles readers can enjoy 30% off their first order when they sign up for a Trade subscription. Simply share your preferencesāsuch as taste, grind, and coffee consumptionāand find your perfect roast. Then, sit back, relax, and enjoy fresh coffee delivered right to your doorstep. Thereās no risk, only the reward of exceptional coffee.

THIS MONTH IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY
The Birth of Connecticutās Department of Corrections
In July 1968, Connecticut redefined how it managed incarceration by officially creating the State Department of Corrections. This landmark move brought all of the stateās prisons under one centralized system ā a major shift from the previous structure, where each facility operated independently with its own staff and rules.
The change was driven by more than just cost-saving goals. A decade of rising unrest, including a massive riot in 1960 involving 400 inmates at Wethersfield State Prison, exposed the weaknesses of a fragmented system. Lawmakers realized that a unified agency could better respond to emergencies and implement consistent standards for security, rehabilitation, and inmate care.
The newly formed department also marked a shift in philosophy ā focusing not just on punishment, but on education, substance abuse treatment, and preparing prisoners for reintegration into society. Connecticutās bold move made it the first state in the U.S. to place every aspect of its prison system ā from intake to parole ā under one umbrella.
