Good design doesn’t stop at your living room. It starts the moment you walk through the door, even if that space doesn’t usually get much thought. Porte + Hall is here to change that.

Instead of disposable, purely functional pieces, they’ve created entryway essentials that balance thoughtful design with long-term performance. Everything is made to look good in your space while still holding up to the day-to-day reality of dirt, weather, and constant foot traffic.

Readers can enjoy 15% off sitewide (excluding the Porter) with code ENTRY15—because even the most functional pieces in your home deserve a design upgrade.

THIS MONTH IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY

British Raid And Burning Of Fairfield During The Revolutionary War

Fairfield became a major target during the Revolutionary War due to its strong Patriot ties and its role as a hub for resistance activity along Connecticut’s coast. British forces viewed the town as a center of rebellion and smuggling, making it a key objective for retaliation.

A large British and Hessian force landed near the town in July 1779 and quickly overwhelmed local defenses. As troops advanced toward the town center, they burned homes, barns, and businesses while residents fled in panic. Though the raid lasted less than a day, it left widespread destruction that the town struggled to recover from for decades.

Fairfield’s commercial importance was permanently impacted, with its regional prominence eventually shifting to nearby Bridgeport, which grew into the area’s primary maritime center. Historical accounts, including remarks attributed to George Washington years later, reflected on the lasting evidence of the destruction left behind.
