📰 Local headlines you might’ve missed

I don’t know about you, but like most Americans, the first thing I reach for every morning is my favorite mug and the coffee in my pantry. Until recently, I settled for any coffee that seemed “okay” at the grocery store, hoping it’d do the job of waking me up. I didn’t care about its flavor or quality. Then I discovered Trade, and everything changed.
Trade introduced me to some of the most exciting small-batch roasters and coffee shops across the country—the kinds of places I’d love to visit if I lived nearby. I took their quick quiz about my coffee preferences, and they matched me with unique coffees I’d never find at the grocery store. Now, I can’t imagine my mornings without them.
Each bag is roasted fresh and shipped directly to my door. I was amazed at how much better it tasted than my usual grocery store coffee, and I didn’t have to change my brewing routine at all.
The aroma? Even my mail carrier noticed and asked about it—it was that good. I’m never going back to the grocery store for coffee again.
For a limited time, Connecticut Lifestyles readers can enjoy 30% off their first order when they sign up for a Trade subscription. Simply share your preferences—such as taste, grind, and coffee consumption—and find your perfect roast. Then, sit back, relax, and enjoy fresh coffee delivered right to your doorstep. There’s no risk, only the reward of exceptional coffee.

Low ticket sales sink Bridgeport’s biggest music event
The Soundside Music Festival—featuring major acts like Hozier, Vampire Weekend, and The Killers—is officially off for 2025. Organizers pulled the plug citing “circumstances beyond our control,” and the city suggested this year’s lineup drew fewer fans than past years.
The fest was supposed to take over Seaside Park again this September but all signs point to a disappearing act: its socials are down, refunds are being processed, and future plans are unclear.

🏀 CONNECTICUT SUN SOLD FOR RECORD $325M—AND COULD MOVE TO BOSTON
New ownership could relocate the WNBA team by 2027
Big moves in women’s sports: the Mohegan Tribe is reportedly selling the Connecticut Sun to a group led by Celtics minority owner Steve Pagliuca. The deal—valued at a massive $325M—would be the largest sale for a women's team in pro sports history.
What’s the catch? The group wants to build a $100M facility in Boston, and that means the Sun may leave Connecticut by 2027. While not finalized, the proposed relocation has sparked strong reactions from fans and leaders in both states.

A Hands-On History Adventure Along the Connecticut Coastline

If you've ever wanted to time-travel without the sci-fi budget, here's your sign. The Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut isn’t your average museum—this place is a living, breathing 19th-century village sprawled across 19 acres of marina-front property. You’re not just looking at dusty artifacts—you’re walking through cobblestone streets, exploring historic tall ships, and chatting with shipwrights, blacksmiths, and coopers like it’s 1870.
Hop aboard the legendary Charles W. Morgan, the last wooden whaling ship in the world (yes, the crown jewel of seafaring vessels). Peek inside the ship that helped shape maritime America, then wander the charming recreated village with its old-school taverns, a hypothecary, and rotating exhibits that keep even history skeptics entertained.
And yes, there’s free parking. You're welcome.

THIS MONTH IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY
The Granite Beneath Lady Liberty
Long before the Statue of Liberty became a symbol of freedom and welcome in New York Harbor, her pedestal was born from the solid ground of Connecticut. Tucked beneath the shoreline towns of Branford and Guilford lies a rich vein of pink granite—an unassuming but vital player in some of America’s grandest landmarks.
First mined in the 1850s, this distinctive stone quickly built a national rep for its strength and rosy hue. It’s been used in everything from Grant’s Tomb to the Smithsonian buildings—but perhaps its most iconic role was supporting Lady Liberty herself.
In 1884, a six-ton block of granite from Guilford’s Beattie Quarry was laid as the cornerstone for the Statue of Liberty’s pedestal. Though construction faced delays (and some fundraising drama), Connecticut’s contribution was solid—literally. The next time you see the Statue of Liberty, remember: her foundation is as Connecticut as it gets.

🚨 “Warrant” Scam Targets Connecticut Residents
State Police are sounding the alarm about scammers impersonating troopers and claiming there are warrants out for arrest—unless a “bond” is paid. The calls are fake. Hang up, block the number, and tell your grandma before she grabs her checkbook.
