WEST HARTFORD TREE PROJECT HAS GIVEN AWAY 6,000 TREES
Grassroots initiative helps restore the town’s tree canopy
Over the last five years, the West Hartford Tree Project has provided 6,000 free trees to town residents, with the goal of replacing lost canopy trees impacted by drought, storms, and invasive pests.
Run by science teachers Ted and Carolyn Goerner, the project helps residents replant lost trees at no cost, thanks to donations and grants like a $7,500 match from Sustainable CT. This year’s demand was higher than ever, with over 1,100 trees given away in just a few days.
