Professor Colette Searls will lead an engaging discussion on how puppets, masks, and animatronic characters have shaped the storytelling of the Star Wars universe. Drawing from her book, A Galaxy of Things, she’ll explore how droids, masked villains, and non-human creatures add depth to the franchise.

This free event is open to the public (donations appreciated), and refreshments will be served. Don't miss this one-night-only exploration of how puppetry brings sci-fi to life!

🚗 CT LAWMAKERS PUSH FOR MAJOR TOWING LAW OVERHAUL

Proposed Bill Seeks to Protect Consumers from Predatory Practices

Connecticut lawmakers are advancing a bill aimed at reforming the state's towing laws following an investigation by The Connecticut Mirror and ProPublica that exposed predatory practices disproportionately impacting low-income residents.

The proposed House Bill 7162 would:

✔️ Extend the time before a towed vehicle can be sold
✔️ Require tow companies to accept debit and credit card payments
✔️ Ensure consumers receive a 24-hour notice before a private property tow
✔️ Make tow yards more accessible on weekends for car retrieval

While many residents and legal advocates support the bill, the towing industry and landlords argue that the changes could create operational challenges. Lawmakers expect bipartisan support as the bill moves through the legislative process.

🌨️ ON THIS DAY IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY: THE GREAT WHITE HURRICANE OF 1888

On March 12, 1888, what began as a typical snowy morning quickly turned into one of the worst blizzards in Connecticut’s history—the infamous Great White Hurricane.

Over the next three days, fierce winds and relentless snowfall buried the state under nearly 50 inches of snow in some areas, with drifts reaching second-story windows.

The storm paralyzed transportation, stranded thousands, and knocked out communication lines, leaving life at a standstill across the Northeast.

Despite the devastation, Connecticut residents showed resilience and camaraderie, helping neighbors dig out and even posing for photos in massive snow tunnels.

When the storm finally subsided, it left behind over 400 fatalities and millions in damages, solidifying its place as one of the most catastrophic winter storms in U.S. history.
