Kids can search for apples—and score pie!

The beloved Spring Apple Hunt is back at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield on Saturday, April 12, giving kids ages 1 to 10 the chance to hunt for eco-certified apples hidden in hay bales near the Apple Barrel Farm Market. Each child receives a T-shirt, apple bucket, and a coupon for a 6″ cream pie.

Admission is $17 per child and advance registration is required. Hunt times are organized by age group throughout the morning.

Make it a full day with breakfast at the Apple Barrel and a walk through the orchards. Rain date is Sunday, April 13.

Hands-on art, storytime, and teen makerspace activities

Bring the whole family to the American Mural Project in Winsted on Saturday, April 12 for a full day of hands-on fun and discovery.

Kids can enjoy story hours, scavenger hunts, games, crafts, and more. April’s theme focuses on pollinators, with activities about the role of biologists and native plant species.

Admission is free for children under 18. The Teen Art Studio runs from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm and invites youth ages 13–18 to get creative with guidance from a teaching artist. General admission is $15 for adults.

A festive springtime experience at the Shore Line Trolley Museum

Hop aboard a vintage trolley and visit with the Easter Bunny at the Shore Line Trolley Museum in East Haven on Saturday, April 12. Kids can complete a spring scavenger hunt for prizes and take photos with the Easter Bunny along the scenic trolley ride route.

The event runs from 11 am to 3 pm with rides offered throughout the day. Admission is $13 for adults, $10 for kids, and free for children under 2.

HEADLINES AROUND THE STATE

  • Walgreens will be closing 7 different Connecticut stores over the next two months.

  • The CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has stopped sewage from leaking into the Connecticut River in East Windsor after last week's sewer line break and is now working on a permanent repair.
