THIS MONTH IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY
Pez Candy Makes Connecticut Home in Orange
PEZ candy, famous for its tiny brick-shaped sweets and playful dispensers, has a surprisingly rich history. Invented in Austria in 1927 by Edward Haas, the candy was originally marketed as a peppermint treat and later even as a tool to help adults quit smoking. Its slim dispensers, reminiscent of cigarette lighters, became a clever way to package the mints.
By the 1950s, PEZ had crossed the Atlantic, delighting American children with dispensers featuring popular TV and movie characters. Demand grew rapidly, prompting the company to open a distribution center in New York City and, later, a U.S. manufacturing hub. In 1973, PEZ established its headquarters in Orange, Connecticut, producing candies domestically for the first time.
In 2011, PEZ opened a sprawling visitor center on its Orange campus, now one of Connecticut’s sweetest attractions. Visitors can watch candies being made, explore thousands of dispensers in the world’s largest PEZ collection, and shop for their own whimsical treats. From Austrian beginnings to Connecticut landmark, PEZ has certainly left a lasting impression on candy lovers everywhere.

Is your home ready for the fall weather? Now's the time to clear out the dust, debris, and danger lurking in your ducts, dryer vents, and other places for a fraction of the cost. Air Wizards, backed by 145 glowing reviews and a 4.4-star rating, is offering up to 82% OFF their most popular HVAC cleaning packages for a limited time only.
