A lot of people think frozen seafood is the backup plan â something you buy when you canât get it fresh. But hereâs the truth: when it comes to quality, frozen can actually be fresher than whatâs behind the grocery store counter.
Most âfreshâ fish has already been frozen for transport, and is then thawed for display (sometimes even thawed and refrozen many times!). By the time you see it on ice at the seafood counter, it may have been sitting there for days. Not exactly what you pictured when you thought âfresh,â right?
For fish thatâs truly fresh, âfrozenâ should be your go-to choice. Wild Alaskan Company freezes wild-caught seafood from Alaska just hours after harvest, locking in peak flavor, texture, and nutrients â perfectly preserved until youâre ready to cook.
Itâs not a shortcut. Itâs the smart way to enjoy top-quality seafood at its best.

THIS MONTH IN CONNECTICUT HISTORY
Samuel Coltâs Patent Changes Hartford and the American West
In the 1830s, a restless young inventor from Hartford turned a bold mechanical idea into one of the most influential firearms in history. After a winding early life that included expulsion from school, time at sea, and even touring as a traveling showman demonstrating nitrous oxide, Samuel Colt secured a U.S. patent in 1836 for a revolving chamber percussion pistol. The design allowed multiple shots to be fired before reloading, a breakthrough that reshaped firearms technology.
Coltâs inspiration reportedly came while studying the rotating mechanisms of a shipâs wheel during a voyage to India. That simple observation led to the concept of a cylinder that could rotate and lock into place between shots. It took years of fundraising and experimentation to perfect the design, but once patented, it laid the foundation for the Colt Paterson revolver, the first mass-produced revolver from his early factory in New Jersey.
Though initial sales were shaky, demand surged during the Mexican-American War, prompting Colt to relocate operations to Hartford in 1847. Along the banks of the Connecticut River, his company pioneered large-scale manufacturing techniques, including the use of interchangeable parts and early assembly-line methods. The factory transformed Hartford into a global center of arms production and helped make Colt one of the wealthiest industrialists of his era.
Coltâs revolvers became deeply embedded in American history, associated with westward expansion and military use. More than a product, his patent marked a turning point for Connecticut industry, establishing Hartford as a manufacturing powerhouse and leaving a legacy that still shapes the stateâs identity today.
