The 49th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest returns to Walnut Beach on Saturday, August 8, inviting participants of all ages to transform the shoreline into a gallery of imaginative creations. Whether you're building with family and friends or simply strolling the beach to admire the artwork, it's a fun-filled day celebrating creativity by the water.
Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., with ideal low tide conditions providing plenty of space for sculptors to get creative. The event is free to participate, with donations supporting the Milford Arts Council.

Dale Earnhardt's Double Victory
In 1985, Stafford Motor Speedway became the site of one of the most memorable moments in Connecticut racing history when NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt captured two victories during the Speedway's "Showdown of Champions." The impressive performance added to an already remarkable winning streak and further cemented Earnhardt's growing reputation as one of the sport's fiercest competitors.
Originally opened in 1870 as a horse racing track, Stafford Motor Speedway had evolved into one of New England's premier racing venues by the time NASCAR's biggest names rolled into town. Its annual events attracted top drivers and enthusiastic fans from across the region.
Earnhardt's success at Stafford remains one of the track's defining moments. The legendary driver went on to become a seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup champion, while Stafford Motor Speedway continues to host racing events that celebrate Connecticut's long-standing motorsports tradition.
