DANGEROUS COLD AHEAD: GOVERNOR ACTIVATES SEVERE WEATHER PROTOCOL
Frigid temperatures expected across Connecticut this week
Gov. Ned Lamont has activated the state’s severe cold weather protocol from Sunday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. through Saturday, Feb. 22 at noon, as a blast of arctic air is set to bring dangerous cold and high winds to the region.
Overnight temperatures are expected to plummet into the single digits, with wind chills making it feel well below zero. Frostbite can develop in under 30 minutes on exposed skin, so taking precautions is essential.
If you or someone you know needs shelter or a warming center, call 2-1-1 or click here for a list of available locations. Transportation assistance is available if needed.
“With the kind of arctic air that is headed our way, spending long periods of time outdoors is not only harmful, but it can also be fatal,” Lamont said. “Shelters and warming centers are available across Connecticut.”
